Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are linked to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile that is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machinery utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator will need to move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift utilize identical lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is specifically designed for uneven surfaces. These models also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This specific model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines offer an ideal solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
