History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment. In 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years. At present, SMAG is the market leader in the world, utilizing grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and worldwide cargo handling applications.
